Goldenvoice and AEG Live, promoters of the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals, are big winners again in the annual Pollstar Awards.
The industry watchdog named the 2011 Coachella the best major non-touring music festival in America at its ceremony earlier this month at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.
It was the eighth time in Coachella’s 12-year history that it won the prestigious award. It beat out the Austin City Limits festival in Austin, Texas; the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn.; the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, and the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago.
Louis Messina of the Messina Group, which co-produces Stagecoach with Goldenvoice and AEG Live, won the Bill Graham Award for Promoter of the Year. Messina also promotes stadium tours for country artists such as Kenny Chesney.
Lesley Olenik, who books talent for the Goldenvoice venues, Club Nokia in Los Angeles and the Fox Theater in Pomona, also was named Nightclub Talent Buyer of the Year. Olenik beat out buyers for such clubs as the House of Blues and Paradise Rock Club in Boston, and the Bowery Ballroom and Webster Hall in New York.
Don Strasburg of the AEG Live office in Denver also was named Pollstar’s Talent Buyer of the Year. He won over three buyers from Live Nation and Joe Litvag AEG Live Midwest.
Lady Gaga won Best Major Tour of the Year. Roger Waters won Most Creative Stage Production and Adelle was named Best New Touring Artist.
