After a five year hiatus, The Shins, are back with a new album — Port of Morrow which drops (that’s how the cool kids say it, right?) March 20.

I was introduced to The Shins in 2004 thanks to the Zach Braff dramedy Garden State.

I loved their folksy and melodic tunes and immediately went out bought their 2001 album Oh, Inverted World.

Apparently one of their songs was also used in the 2003 Jason Lee Comedy It’s A Guy Thing, but not sure how many people saw that movie.

The first track from their new album — Simple Song — was released on Jan. 9.

It’s B side is September and apparently written for frontman James Mercer’s wife. It’s a beautiful song and should be listened to many times over.
